Victoria J. Marsick is a Professor of Adult & Organizational Learning, Department of Organization and Leadership, Columbia University, Teachers College. Prior to joining Teachers College, she was a Training Director at the United Nations Children’s Fund. She holds a Ph.D. in Adult Education from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.P.A. in International Public Administration from Syracuse University.

Victoria co-directs the J.M.Huber Institute for Learning in Organization at Teachers College with Martha Gephart. The Institute is dedicated to advancing the state of knowledge and practice of learning in organizations. Clients have included Otis Elevator, the U.S. Army, and a partnership between Ericsson and the Columbia University Business School, Executive Education.

Victoria is a member of the Board of Governors of the Center for Creative Leadership. She consults with both the private and public sectors on action learning and informal learning in organizations. Corporate clients have included AchieveGlobal, AT&T, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, CIBA-GEIGY, Coca Cola, Imperial Oil/EXXON companies, PSE&G, and Travelers Companies. Public/non-profit clients have included school principals and superintendents through programs at Columbia University, the City of New York, the Department of Defense, the Ford Foundation, the Government of Bermuda, the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and UNICEF.

Victoria has collaborated with Martha Gephart in developing a framework and instruments to guide system level learning and change. She has developed a diagnostic tool for organizational learning with Karen Watkins that has been used in private and not-for-profit settings. And she has worked with Kathleen Dechant and Elizabeth Kasl on a model and diagnostic tool to improve team learning.

Recent books include: Understanding Action Learning (in press, with Judy O’Neil); Strategic Organizational Learning (forthcoming, with Martha Gephart); Informal Learning on the Job  (1999, co-edited with Marie Volpe); Action Learning (1999, co-edited with Lyle Yorks and Judy O’Neil); and (all co-authored with Karen Watkins) Facilitating the Learning Organization: Making Learning Count  (1999), In Action:  Creating the Learning Organization (1996), Sculpting the Learning Organization (1993),and Informal and Incidental Learning in the Workplace (1990).
