Judy O'Neil

Judy O'Neil works with Inroads Consulting and President of Partners for Learning.& Leadership.  In that role she works with companies, in the US and internationally, interested in using development and change to increase bottom line results. Prior to her work with Inroads and Partners, she was principal in her own consulting firm. In addition, she spent 30 years in the corporate world focusing on human resource development and organizational change.

Dr. O’Neil holds an Ed.D. and M.A. in Adult Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. She earned a BA in psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She is on the adjunct faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University where she teaches and advises doctoral students.

Dr. O’Neil specializes in the implementation of interventions that can help to increase capacity for learning within companies to improve results. Her interest in learning and change stems from the late 1980s. At that time, as an internal practitioner, she implemented one of the first action learning programs at AT&T.  Since that time, she has implemented, managed, facilitated, researched and/or consulted on programs for several organizations. Her clients have included VNU (Nielsen Media Ratings), Berlex Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Fidelity Investments, PSE&G, RR Donnelley, AT&T, Ernst and Young, Norwest, The Mount Sinai Medical Center of New York, New York Transit Authority, and The Hartford Insurance.

She has authored a number of books and journal articles on her work and research. Recent publications include: A review of action learning literature 1994-2000—Part 1 & 2 , (2003)co-authored with P. Smith; Action learning (2002), co-authored with V. J. Marsick; Working as a learning coach team in action learning (2000), co-authored with S. Lamm; Changing whole systems: Leadership in real work at Public Service Electric & Gas, Inc. (1999) In V. J. Marsick & K. E. Watkins, Facilitating learning organizations: Making learning count; Action learning: Successful strategies for individual, team, and organizational development (1999) co-edited with L. Yorks and V. J. Marsick. She is currently working on a new book for publication in early 2007 entitled Understanding action learning: Co-designing for results. Dr. O’Neil’s doctoral dissertation was entitled The role of the learning advisor in action learning.
